The only other thing to report is that we are picking up an unusual amount of static on the radio. There is no mention of a storm at sea, but it is getting so bad we can barely make out anything.
I don't like being without a radio. I don't like it at all.
5/3 Began search pattern at 0700. After an hour, Sharlene asked to be relieved, complaining of a severe headache. She is a hard worker and would not ask for time off if she could continue. Ordered her below to get some rest.

5/3 1600 hours We have found it! We have found the greatest structure on the face of the Earth! It is incredible! Fantastic! Stupendous! But what is it?
There is quite a bit of disagreement over what it is exactly. Schwartz thinks it is the lost city of Atlantis, and for lack of a better term, that is what we are calling it. But what civilization could build anything more than three miles high? Stuart suggested that it is perhaps the biblical Tower of Babel? But here, in the Atlantic Ocean? Doubt it. I lean towards the theory that it is some sort of alien structure. Were the inhabitants of Atlantis visitors from the stars? Remember, the other end of this thing, whatever it is, is resting on the Great Abysmal Plain, more than 18, 000 feet below us. We are merely seeing the top of this particular iceberg.
For the record, Robert T. Lyndon and Dale Schwartz made the initial discovery. After picking up very strange readings below us, they suited up and went down. At 1210 hours they reported the discovery of a monstrous underwater structure or domed city. Their report was so fantastic that I had to go down and take a look myself.
The diver that sold the company that map was not exaggerating in the least. The structure is enormous. It dwarfs anything heretofore known to man.
In the dim, murky water it is impossible to gauge the true immensity of the thing at first, which is probably just as well, for it saves us from being even more stunned and awed than we already are. By sending up marking buoys we have determined the structure to be slightly more than a mile and a half long, and about a mile wide. Since the slightly domed roof comes within ninety feet of the surface of the water, this thing must be nearly 18, 000 feet high! When one stands on the surface of the roof and peers over the side, and thinks of that mighty wall extending ever downward to a foundation hidden in eternal darkness three and a half miles below, then one can suddenly feel a touch of awesome vertigo. It is best not to think of what an incredible fall into the abyss that would be. There are some things the mind just cannot accept rationally. Luckily, our beams reach down only a few feet into the dark.
What we have found is the tallest structure the world has ever seen. Compare this to the World Trade Center, slightly over 1, 400 feet high. Why this one building could house an entire city by itself, especially since the walls do seem to slope outward. Was this the home of an alien colony here on Earth? Are there any still alive down there? At least bodies?
