No stranger to the printed word, James Schmerer, a writer-producer-story consultant, has produced three prime-time television series and has been the executive story consultant on six others. Mr. Schmerer has written over 200 prime-time episodes (from The High Chaparral to MacGyver), soaps, animation and features. He teaches screenwriting at UCLA and gives screenwriting seminars around the country.

Twisted Shadows is James Schmerer's first novel. It was written when he decided to see if he could write in another discipline, further pushing his writing skills. The author chose an arena that he was most familiar with, that of the detective mystery genre, which has been the prime arena of his previous writing. He also wanted to weave a romantic relationship into the story and the issue of combining a love story, albeit a May-December one, with a murder mystery came together perfectly and is the basis for this first novel.
