I point this out in an attempt to get him to stop babbling.

"Oh, this?" Vampire says while holding up the arm with the handcuffs. "Oh, yeah. . .I forgot."

"Forgot what?" Spin Doctor shouts, grabbing Vampire's arm and shaking the handcuffs. "What did you forget?"

Vampire looks suddenly worried. "I forgot," he mumbles. "Pigs pulled me over a couple of blocks from here. They must have known I was tweaking. Only happened a few minutes ago. Tried to cuff me but I got away. Ran all the way here."

Spin Doctor looks as if he can't believe what he's hearing. "You ran all the way here?" He pushes Vampire to the side and then rushes to the front window. He looks out between a narrow space where he's parted the curtains. He doesn't move for a few moments. "Come here," he mutters softly. None of us move. Still peering between the curtains, he waves an arm and says with more force, "Someone come here!" Finally, he whirls around and grabs the closest person, which happens to be me. He pulls the curtains to the side and pushes my face to the window. With one arm on my shoulder and the other arm pointing to some small trees growing by the street, he says, "Look! Look! What do you see? Over there by the neighbor's car. In the trees."

Nothing. There's nothing to be seen. I put up an act though, like I'm actually looking for something, and take my time. It seems as if he's seen something and I don't wish to anger him.

"In the trees," he growls. "Look in the fucking trees - Cops!"

"What?" I back away a few steps. The other two crank addicts gasp.

"THERE'S COPS IN THE TREES!" He yells something else and then rushes for the front door. He departs into the night.
